Why now is the perfect time for a (website) facelift
Working from home during lockdown? Why not use this opportunity to spruce up your website with some fresh new content…
Many of us are working from home during the coronavirus pandemic and now is as good a time as any to cast your eye over your website and consider giving it a fresh new makeover.
There are many reasons why revamping and updating your website content is a good idea. Most importantly, it will generate hits and improve your chances of SEO success. Making it interesting and current will also add authenticity and relevance to your site.
Here are some tips on how to update and refresh your website content:
1. Clean up the copy
Revisit your website copy and consider whether it needs updating.
Write a list of popular key words that will bring visitors to your site and check you have included these in the copy. Things might have moved on a bit within your industry so key words you used in your original content might not be so relevant now.
Make sure important information is above the ‘fold’ (the part of the webpage that’s visible in a browser window when the page first loads) so visitors don’t have to keep scrolling down the page.
Do some research - have a look at other sites and consider how you can make your site unique and stand out from the rest.
Update older content you’ve posted and check information is up to date and correct. Old news doesn’t give the impression that your company has been busy!
2. Post a blog
Blogs are an important part of marketing and a great way to engage with your audience and update your site. Always keep your reader in mind when composing a blog and have a reason for writing it (such as to sell a product, discuss a relevant topic or engage with the audience).
Use key words in your blog post to attract visitors to your site.
Write a compelling and attention grabbing headline and a strong opening paragraph to capture the reader’s attention. Make it interesting and relevant to the reader.
Add some personality (or even humour!) to your writing.
Break up the copy with images.
Encourage interaction– maybe pose a question in your blog copy or ask for a response from the reader.
Proofread your blog before you publish.
Share your blog posts on social media to encourage new visitors to your site and use any relevant hashtags too.
3. Get social
Check social media links on your website are still relevant and up to date and make sure any links are spelt correctly!
4. Check your contact details
Make sure all your contact details are correct so that visitors can reach out to you!
5. Need a design revamp?
Check out your web design and consider whether you need to revamp the overall look of your site to keep it fresh.
You can use bold headings and sub headings as well as images to improve design and break up text.
6. Eliminate errors and typos
Check all copy on your website for any spelling, grammar or punctuation mistakes. Badly written copy does not look professional and will do nothing for your credibility and reputation.
Always check, check and check again before you publish!
